5 December 2016, CBD COP13, Cancun Mexico - There are 20 Aichi Targets in all, endorsed at the tenth Conference of the Parties to the CBD in Nagoya, Japan in 2010. They help to meet five different strategic goals which aim to reduce the loss of biodiversity by the year 2020. Each day during the CBD COP13 we'll be sharing one of the Targets with you and examples of how the Pacific islands are meeting these. –#PacificProtectedAreas
Strategic Goal A: Address the underlying causes of biodiversity loss by mainstreaming biodiversity across government and society.
Target 2: By 2020, at the latest, biodiversity values have been integrated into national and local development and poverty reduction strategies and planning processes and are being incorporated into national accounting, as appropriate, and reporting systems.

"The Federated States of Micronesia is currently implementing its Integrated Agriculture Census which includes Forestry, Fisheries and other Food Security elements, outcomes of this project will guide us on more evidence-based policy interventions in relevant sectors - Agriculture, Forestry, Fisheries and Food Security (e.g. nutrition, disaster risk reduction, etc.).

We also have activities in the pipeline, we are working with UN Statistics on scoping out our priorities - agriculture, fisheries, tourism, energy, water and waste management - to roll out into a full tabulation through the System of Environmental-Economic Accounting (SEEA) process. There is a UN Stats Division mission currently undergoing in the country this month and we're tentatively scoping out water and energy to see if we can expand into the other sector priorities." – Ms Alissa Takesy, Assistant Secretary, Division of Resource Management and Development
